An avenue of torches will light the path to this iconic landmark, while a toasty bonfire will keep us warm as we sing. Members of the Blackdown Community Choir will be leading the Christmas singing. Mince pies and mulled wine will be on sale thanks to Smeatharpe Women’s Institute.

Winter Hedgelaying Course07 January 2017
Winter Hedgelaying Course, Saturday 7th January 2017 The Blackdown Hills Hedge Association's course starts at nine thirty in the morning and finishes at about four o'clock in the afternoon. Then break for lunch so you will need to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink. The hedges we use belong to farmers around the village of Yarcombe in East Devon. Everyone meets at the village hall in the village. The Blackdown Hills Hedge Association will provide tools for the day or you are welcome to bring your own. A pair of stout gloves and a billhook is really all that is required although a pair of loppers and a pruning saw can be useful. They don't expect you to bring a chainsaw. It is much easier for us (from a safety point of view) if the use of chainsaws is restricted to the instructors The course costs £40, which is payable on the day.
