Grants for Rural Businesses and Economic Projects

In conjunction with the Rural Payments Agency and the Heart of the South West Growth Hub, the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership is holding an event for rural businesses and organisations wishing to apply for grants through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) Growth Programme.

The ‘Heart of the South West RDPE Growth Programme Briefing’ will take place from 10.00 (refreshments from 9.30) to 13.00 on Friday 24 March at Cullompton Community Centre.

The event will provide further information on the following funding opportunities through the RDPE Growth Programme:

Rural Business Development Grants – Farm businesses diversifying into non-agricultural activity and new or existing micro and small businesses (including social enterprises) in rural areas can apply for capital grants between £35,000 and c. £170,000 to support business start-up or expansion.

Food Processing Grants – New or existing food and drink processing businesses (including farm businesses diversifying into food and drink processing) can apply for capital grants from £35,000 to support business start-up or expansion.

Rural Tourism Infrastructure Grants –Rural businesses, farmers, landowners, charities and public bodies can apply for capital grants from £35,000 for projects that improve the local rural tourism offer by delivering new or enhanced rural tourism assets and infrastructure.

The agenda will feature speakers from the Rural Payments Agency (as the grant administrators) and will include:

  • The strategic context for RDPE Growth Programme activity in the Heart of the South West;
  • An overview of the RDPE Growth Programme and how to apply;
  • Q&A sessions with the Rural Payments Agency; and
  • Information on wider business support available through the Heart of the South West Growth Hub.

South West Business Expo 2017

The South West Business Expo is probably the largest business exhibition in South West.  It’s FREE to attend and offers visitors the chance to network with local business owners, plus offers the chance for you to gain free business advice and support from local organisations and speakers.

Monthly Lunch Club - April

Our regular monthly lunch club takes place at the Sidmouth Arms in Upottery on the third Wednesday of each month. A fantastic opportunity to meet and network with the BHBA team, other BHBA members and visitors, and hear from a guest speaker each month.

Guest Speaker Jenny Brown – Tourism Councillor for East Devon  -  ‘ In at the deep end’,  Jenny will be sharing her first 8 months learning how to swim in her new role and the projects she is working on, including The Apple Trail which meanders across East Devon AONB and the Blackdown Hills,  and The East Devon Line Community Rail Project.

Cyber Security - Keeping Your Business Safe Online

Guest Speaker Kate Doodson, Joint Chief Executive of Cosmic, will give you an introduction into cyber security, share the best ways to protect your business, employees and customers from online attacks, data loss and other threats.

This workshop will help you to combat threats and stay safe online, covering:

  • The threats your business faces
  • How to minimise your risks
  • Ways to look out for threats
  • Best practice for passwords
  • Planning to reduce the impact of a cyber attack
