Every third Wednesday of the month we host a relaxed friendly Business Lunch for members and non-members of businesses in the Blackdown Hills and surrounding areas to engage, network and share best practice.
We welcome a guest speaker each month to share their expertise and top tips covering important business information to support business development, growth and the local economy.
Everyone is welcome the meeting starts with coffee and informal networking from midday and lunch at 1-2pm.
The meeting and lunch is held in a different venue each month showcasing our members businesses and facilities.
In May we are going to the Sidmouth Arms in Upottery, with guest speaker Graham Long, chairman for Broadband in Rural Devon and Somerset. In abstract Graham has said:
” In 2018, UK productivity is just about the same as it was in 2008, before the Banking Crisis. Other countries have since seen their productivity exceed that before the Banking Crisis. Along with the UK’s economic dependence on the financial services sector, lack of increased productivity is often linked to a lack of UK infrastructure investment, particularly communications – road, rail and broadband.
Whilst little is likely to change in respect of road and rail communications in the Southwest for the foreseeable future, broadband availability has started making a huge leap forward for large areas of rural Devon and Somerset and the Blackdown Hills are at the forefront of these changes. This is the roll out of full fibre broadband which has the potential to revolutionise rural businesses.
At the May 16 BHBA meeting I will describe how full fibre broadband is a “disruptive technology” which will change the way we do almost everything and could add £4.9Billion to the Southwest’s economy, more than any other UK region.”
Tickets must be purchased in advance.
We look forward to seeing you there.
